Our Technology

The ACCC Process is a low cost and energy efficient carbon capture process. The process can be fitted to a whole range of CO2 containing gasses. Extraction of CO2 from atmosphere is achieved by CO2 capture from Bio-Energy emissions

Development

SilicaTech has during the last 12 years developed a new cost efficient Carbon Capture Technology in cooperation with Bilfinger and DTU(Technical University of Denmark).

The patented process has been successfully tested and verified in pilot scale at Herøya by Bilfinger, along with process simulation in the Aspen Plus and extended Uniquac models by DTU.

The technology is now ready for scale up to full size AC carbon capture plants.

Process Technology

The AC Process basic chemistry is the reaction between aqueous ammonia and CO2, resulting in conversion of CO2 and aqua ammonia into an ammonium bicarbonate slurry.


The CO2 absorption takes place in packed absorption columns combined with units without packing. The regeneration of CO2 from the ammonium bicarbonate solids takes place after separating solids from the slurry.

Future Glitch

Last Development Stage

The present development phase involves construction and commissioning of a full scale carbon capture plant, based on the AC Carbon Capture Technology. The plant will operate with a CO2 capture capacity up to around 1.000.000 tons CO2 per year, based on flue gas  with a CO2 content of around 12 vol. %. The demonstration plant total costs will be approx. € 110,0 Million.

Cost Reduction

Low energy consumption and low equipment costs are the major cost advantages compared to other CO2 capture technologies.

These cost reducing factors are the main elements behind the cost estimation calculations, showing the possibility of constructing commercial CO2 capture plants with capture rates at approx. 1 millon tonnes CO2/year, and an CAPEX estimate per Plant at around Euro 110 Million

The SilicaTech AC Carbon Capture Technology might probably be unique by having the potential to meet the demand for required cost efficiency, and may thereby contribute to a realistic perspective for a far reaching removal of CO2 from being released into atmosphere.

The AC Carbon Capture Process is environmentally friendly and will operate well below the limitations set by environmental authorities.
